Camping

Surrounding star-shaped Lake Murphysboro are rolling hills and woods that make it a wonderful place to hike, picnic, camp, or just relax. This 1,022-acre state park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including archery.

Well-equipped campsites located in scenic areas of the park provide the perfect opportunity to extend your stay at Lake Murphysboro. Camping is available at 20 tent sites and 54 trailer sites that are equipped with electricity.

The park is also handicapped accessible with Class A and B/S handicapped sites, paved campgrounds, wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and accessible docks. Disabled restrooms are available in the Big Oak and Shady Rest camping areas and at both shelters.

Picnicking

Located in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest, Lake Murphysboro State Park offers a beautiful setting for picnicking. Featuring rolling hills and forests surrounding the star-shaped namesake lake, the 1,022 acres of this park is a perfect place to enjoy fishing, boating, camping and hiking.

Built in 1950 by the Division of Fisheries, Lake Murphysboro is a 145-acre tributary of Indian Creek with a watershed of approximately 4,500 acres. Its maximum water depth is 36 feet and its 7.5 miles of shoreline are made up of rolling hills covered with a variety of trees. Click for more info!
